Flyboy Reporting

Posted on Sat Aug 17th, 2019 @ 1:32pm by Lieutenant Ren Kannu & Captain Logan Barrett

Mission: Mission 2: Pyramids & Spirals
Location: Deck 1 - Ready Room
Timeline: MD 01 - 0945 Hours

After arriving on board, finding his quarters and doing some unpacking, Ren decided to head up to the bridge and report directly to the captain.

As the turbolift doors slid open, Ren was amazed by the bridge of the Galaxy Class vessel. Of course, the vessel class was nearing about four decades old but she really was a thing of beauty. Out of all the ships he’d flown, he knew straight away, this was going to be his favourite.

He headed down the ramp on the left side of the bridge and hit the door chime on the Captain’s Ready Room and waited for permission to enter.

Captain Barrett had just finished reading the latest report about the Romulan Senate. Two main factions were intertwined in a power struggle regarding procedures for proposing bills. He wasn't exactly a lawyer but occasionally delved into political learning. That is until he got fed up with how convoluted it was, to begin with.

The door chime sounded, breaking him from his musings and he picked up his hazelnut coffee, telling the stranger to enter before he took a decent gulp of the hot liquid. "Come."

The Bajoran lieutenant entered the captain’s ready room and walked up to the desk. He stood to attention, picking a spot on the wall behind the captain’s head to concentrate on. “Lieutenant Ren Kannu, reporting for duty, sir.” He said.

Barrett put his coffee down and rose to his feet and smiled as he said, "At ease, lieutenant." He then shook the man's hand and gestured for him to take a seat. He sat back down and smoothed his uniform front. "So you're our new helmsman, correct? I trust the trip out here wasn't too bad."

“That’s correct, sir,” Ren replied as his shoulders dropped a little as he stood more relaxed. “The trip out here was long and, well, boring. I like to keep busy, sitting and waiting isn’t something I do well.”

Barrett respected that the man wanted to remain standing. He was reminded of how, in years past, he also didn't sometimes take offered seats by superior officers, out of respect. He smirked and said, "I can believe that. Starfleet officers are explorers and we don't do well to sitting around, especially on transports." He took a sip of his coffee. "The very least they could've done is offer you the helm."

“That would have kept me quiet for the most part but transport helm doesn’t excite me. I did plenty of it when I was in the Bajoran Militia. I suppose I’ve been spoiled since transferring across to Starfleet.” Ren replied with a smile.

"Well, you'll have plenty of time flying the best ship in the fleet from now on. I trust you've settled in alright?" Logan wanted to make sure his officers were properly taken care of, which his first officer was very adept.

“I look forward to taking the wheel,” Ren said enthusiastically. “I have settled in well, thank you. I’ve already spoken with the first officer. I’ve also met a few of the crew at last night's festivities in ten forward.”

Logan nodded approvingly. "Excellent. I value my officers knowing each other and developing esprit de corps. As a matter of fact, I may have something up your alley. Our chief science officer, Lieutenant Ral, will be conducting a survey of the macro warp spiral phenomenon in this system. I'm sure she could use a skilled pilot such as yourself." He grinned and then sipped his coffee once more.

“Sounds exciting, Captain. I’ll be glad to help out where I can.” Ren smiled.

Captain Barrett leaned back in his chair as he pondered the lieutenant. "We could use an experienced officer in the chain of command, should the need arise. What would you say about the position of second officer?"

The offer threw Ren for a moment. “I would like to work my way up the ladder. Command experience would definitely help with that.” He replied before pausing for a moment. “I’d be honoured to take the role as second officer.” He said with a humble bow of his head.

Barrett nodded and rose from his chair, signaling the end of the meeting. "Excellent. I look forward to working with you, lieutenant," he said as he offered his hand to shake.

Ren smiled as he took the captain’s hand and gave it a firm shake. “I’m looking forward to serving this ship and crew to the best of my abilities, sir.”

"I'm glad to hear it, Mister Kannu. Dismissed." With that, Barrett returned his attention to his screen.

Ren gave the Captain a respectful nod before turning on his heel and left.
